Summer Update
Over the summer, there are a few ways that you can continue to explore the world of jazz and grow in your playing:
1. Check out some great recordings. Use the reference in your pink jazz method book to find new (or old) artists and albums to listen to.
2. Look at the audition music for the FRC jazz program. It's posted on the Grade 9 Concert Band page.
3. Continue to work on your improvising. Use some of the play-along tracks that have been posted on this website or are available online.
4. Transcribe a solo. Pick a tune that you are interested in and see what you can transcribe. Maybe you can get a few measures...maybe you can do a whole solo. Start with players who are a little more melodic in their approach, like Chet Baker or Miles Davis. Explore from there.
5. Learn tunes by ear! Don't write anything down. Just listen to a melody and try and figure it out on your instrument.
Good luck, and have fun!
